06-Feb-06
Time: 04:30 AM
NFL SUPERBOWL XL

Seattle Seahawks Vs Pittsburgh Steelers

Its a Monday morning...a very early monday morning but if Vijay's willing I want to see this game as it happens. DV will be in for sure...but damn the Reebok stores here don't retail no Steelers jerseys

Roar!

The finals of the Premier Hockey League is underway and the Bangalore Lions are kicking some Punjabi butt. We thrashed the Chandigarh dudes 4-1 in the first of the best of 3 final...even money says we won't need to play the 3rd game.

Go Lions!

Open the box!

Brenda sent me this link. Never imagined something called Pandora would amount to your own, personal, streaming 24 hour online radio station!

Just when I felt nothing could get better than Virgin Radio, along comes Pandora....although I think I'll miss Leona Graham's voice.....*sigh*

Thanks for the link Bren...you made my day.

Frittering Away......

Time...
Sand in your palm...the stronger you clench the faster it falls
Creeping up on you...insidious, silent, the reaper of youth...
A monster crouching on the doorstep...nay crouching on its doorstep...
the threshold of responsibility...
oh responsibility...you unforgiving beast...
...the strings of carefree days are worn...frayed...snapping with the sound of inevitability....

World Music

Watched Anoushka Shankar perform 'live' last evening. It was a small show in a small auditorium. She performed her entire grammy nominated album "Rise" which had some wonderful pieces. Although the album is not pure Hindustani Classical, they have managed a very lively mix of classical with bass, piano & beats. The best came at the end with an acoustic rendition of "Raag Jog" together with the violin, mridangam, tabla & flute. The only small let down was the vocals in a couple of the pieces but I guess after having recently watched Chaurasia with Pandit Jasraj, others pale in comparison. All in all: Good stage presence. She's good.

Coming Up: Jethro Tull on the 3rd Feb & Bryan Adams on the 5th Feb. I've never seen Bryan Adams perform and I will unabashedly say that I am a fan...a big one.

Leap Frogging

Interesting discussions in the last couple of days talking about the transformation from boys who were trying to find themselves to boys who are trying to find what to do with themselves.

leap frogging topics: India V Pak, Karl Rove, NYC, Sania, slingboxes, MBAs....
******************

Good news on the return of the prodigal front: a certain someone may well be returning to the motherland....if it does happen, it will be a much needed filip to the strategies into action agenda.
**********************

Best news of the week so far: Anoushka Shankar will be performing in the city this Sunday

********************
Movie Update: Watched a Spanish movie titled "Lucia Y el Sexo". Good portrayals led by the smashing Paz Vega as Lucia.
****************

But the most eagerly awaited movie for me personally in a while is out this weekend. Aamir Khan's "Rang De Basanti" will hit the screens. Anything Aamir does: I Like.

At Long Last

For those of you who have ever caught me talking on my mobile phone in India, you would immediately have been repelled by the instrument through which I was conversing. You could easily have mistaken it for any one of several things: 1. a toy 2. a pencil box shaped like a phone 3. a piece of useless metal being bandied about as a handset

After several months of torment, ridicule, chagrin & frustration I will finally be free of the ignominy of being caught in the act....the act of using my present Kyocera handset (still don't know how to pronounce that)

Lo & behold...soon I will be having my conversations, listening to music & taking papparazi style pictures on this little beauty:

- MMS capable
- VGA camera
- FM Radio
- Java compatible
- WAP enabled

I love Finlandia!

Knot without a trial run

DJ tied the knot. So did SG. PS, SK & MG are following suit soon. Gets you thinking about the institution and when you yourself will be a part of it. The idea is still extremely distant to me, apart from being equally frightening, if not a little bit naive too.

How much is a sacrifice on the altar of convention & society? How much is compromise? A short discussion last evening got me thinking...the topic was Indian parents becoming familiar with the concept of a "live in" relationship. Although we have a few movies and books dealing with this situation, its mostly an ultra urban phenomenon with most families in India blanching at the mere sign of any such intent.

However, logic & reason tell me that this is the best way to go. I would like to have done a "trial run" (for a lack of a more suitable phrase) before I walk around the fire or say 'I do'.

How would my own family react if such a situation were to occur with me? Outrage is the word that comes to mind first...followed by a total loss of all credibility & reputation amongst family. Aah the paradox of our times!

To all the men taking the plunge...ustedes tienen cojones grandes

Happiness to all the couples & couples to be...Oh and I think I may as well resign myself to being ostracised...or don't I seem like the 'live in' type?

Defining 2006

• 18 Handicap
• Playing the game…more aggressively
• Running a Marathon
• Playing “blowin’ in the wind” on my guitar
• Hablo Espanol Y poco de Portuges

Sounds simple. Now lets get to work!

Only one word

I am not going to wax eloquent about Goa. You can check out some of the images on flickr. Goa proved to be all I had heard it is and a whole lot more: Paradise
