Gift

I'm going to be in Delhi next week (!...more on that later). I have two dear cousins in Delhi and one of them is a 17 year old girl. I think its high time somebody (me) introduce her to some real music. No offence but being in Delhi doesn't exactly help that cause. My choice of CDs is "In time - the best of R.E.M - 1988 - 2003" and "P*U*L*S*E " . Two of the greatest collections of all time. Cobain, Vedder, Dylan and others will follow in due course. But lets stay somewhat alternative-mainstream for now. I also want to give her a book...you know... to appear intellectual to Aunt & Uncle. My library is either too dark, too philosophical or too literary.

Any suggestions?

Book for 17-year-old cousin: Get her a book with a strong female character like "To kill a Mockingbird" (all-time classic) or "The No 1. ladies detective agency" (delightful light-hearted read).

The Catcher in the Rye. It should be mandatory reading for every 17 year old.
