World Music
Watched Anoushka Shankar perform 'live' last evening. It was a small show in a small auditorium. She performed her entire grammy nominated album "Rise" which had some wonderful pieces. Although the album is not pure Hindustani Classical, they have managed a very lively mix of classical with bass, piano & beats. The best came at the end with an acoustic rendition of "Raag Jog" together with the violin, mridangam, tabla & flute. The only small let down was the vocals in a couple of the pieces but I guess after having recently watched Chaurasia with Pandit Jasraj, others pale in comparison. All in all: Good stage presence. She's good.
Coming Up: Jethro Tull on the 3rd Feb & Bryan Adams on the 5th Feb. I've never seen Bryan Adams perform and I will unabashedly say that I am a fan...a big one.
