A new low

I guess this is only a testimony as to how much this game means to me that amidst being part of an incredible tennis event, amidst a recent discovery or should I say renewal of goals, I choose to muse about the Indian cricket team. What is happening now & what has already transpired no doubt has done irreparable harm & damage to Indian cricket.

The old ugly head of "politics" in Indian cricket raises its head again after having seemingly disappeared in the hey days of the 2003 world cup. Now I see things as they are and am bitterly disappointed that after witnessing one golden era in cricket lead by Steve Waugh, I will witness one of the worst.

All good things come to an end but I was hoping that after Waugh's brilliance, team India would be the pretenders who would finally find their place in the sun, albeit lead by Dravid. Sachin's injuries & fitness, Zaheer's continued run of dismal form, Ganguly's idiocy & the general inconsistency of this team has blighted that hope. Instead of my men in blue, its team England that have beaten the Aussies & staked their claim as the number one pretender.

It is only typical that private discussions & communications are brought into the open and I would bet a fair amount that Ganguly's support machinery that has enabled him to remain in captaincy this long (read: jagmohan dalmiya) has been working furiously to ensure his continued survival & Chappell's consequent demise.

Anyhow, this post has gotten longer than it should have. I'll still watch the men in blue play but not spurred by patriotic instincts but only to see the odd flashes of brilliance from the likes of Yuvraj & Pathan and of course to continue drawing inspiration from Dravid & Kaif.
