How about a revolution?

net1, originally uploaded by abhimehta.

As one of the most catchy adages I've ever heard of and read :-) goes..."how about a revolution" was the thought that crossed the minds of a bunch of loons..It began as a crazy idea in 2000 - 2001...it gained shape in 2002 - 2003 and became a reality in 2004
:-)
Koks...does the t shirt look familiar mate?

Minni...do you know what t shirt this is? :-)

Glad you know you find my tagline catchy.

Just another comment... AIESECconnect. Why is it that it has never took off? Maybe you should elaborate on this because to most of us this is something that still is in the development stages. I personally have only been in there once, looked around, didn't see much and logged out.

Oh boss...I remember sitting around the dinner table at the Chinese place across Pathe last July...sharing our expectations, listening to Sathe share his vision. That's where we got that ball rolling with the culmination at IC in Serbia & Montenegro...hehe - "You can check out any time you want...BUT..."

Can I get one of these t-shirts pls ;) ?

And no worries Digidi, we've gotta have some patience with AIESEConnect. If the focus and capacity was there, we would have probably had AIESEConnect 'all vanilla' 2 years back... Umm, see...the way it works in AIESEC is that only once one *becomes* an alumn, one realizes the necessity and obviousness for a well-functioning alumni network :) :). As long as the current AIESEC members remain the only ones to spread the word and decide about the efforts, the global Alumni network will not kick off as we (alumns) all wish. Stanford University takes pride in around (full-time) 100 staff members working with the initiatives of Stanford Alumni Association. AIESEC has 1 person for the same on AI and say 10-20 volunteer members in countries across the network. Something's gotta change actually working on it :).

That's why we, alumns, need to kick off some action ourselves and support/initiate the efforts. Nomadlife, Digidi, is a great example ;) Let's keep it going.

Kokie,
Did we come up with this tag line in Coolar or was it on our memorable journey back from NLDS Diu. Vineet was a critical element of this tag line. My memory is acting up on me. Pls clarify!

Minni,

Which Chinese restraunt in front of Pathe....aaaah now i remember....the place which has the best Sweet n Sour Chicken, and Egg Fried Rice. Abhi that was the place.

Missing the days at Koolar, the crazy negotiations or shud i say threats offerred by myself and KB in his Hat to the bus driver at 4 am in the morning in Baroda. That was clearly a moment i will never forget from the MC Days, and the Chinese place!

Hey Digs :)
aieseconnect has been slow to take of and even have an online presence primarily because of reasons mentioned by Minni..and to add to that sadly alumni strategy for reasons I've never understood, has never been a priority for AIESEC at any level that I have worked at. I find it absurd but that's how its been.
Having said that, aieseconnect now seems to be taking a more coherent form. Take a peek at www.aiesec.net/alumni

But one issue where I disagree with Minni is about alumni taking initiative. We always will but until AIESEC wakes up and realises that alumni should figure in any priority list, we'll always have these same discussions with very little outcome :-)
We tried minni...:-) lets hope someone will take our efforts forward. And may the day dawn when aiesec too will have 10 people on the alumni team!

I agree with you, Abhi. At times I get idealistic on this subject...yet, given the past record: the past thousands of initiatives by alumns et al - those brought together 1-2 generations, 3 max but never beyond that. Alumns are usually just too much into their own business (am not judgemental but realistic).

AIESEC herself has got to go through a mindshift (to understand the significance and practical everyday benefits of the Alumni network) and that will take years. Perhaps the @ XP will help, who knows. Time will show.

Ofcourse, the much talented Jawa holds the copyright for "You can check-out anytime you like... but you can never leave"!! :)

The name 'AIESEConnect' was at Koolar Cafe, though I must add, it wasn't the most well accepted one among the alternatives to begin with.

As for alumni initiatives, that's all I thought about for a year - and the only conclusion that I reached was that, it's cool to have alumni foundations/associations and all that jazz; but at the end of the day, it will never be a priority for an alumnus. One who wants to build his network of fellow AIESEC alumnus, will go out there and build one on his own.

What is needed is a well thought out approach and strategy from within AIESEC. Unfortunately, I think the global alumni strategy was a super confused and a messed up one until 2002-2003. I think that was when some serious thought was actually given to hack the fluffy lamb called 'alumni strategy' and bring some real meat to the table - and that was realistic!
I may be biased here, but I have reason to believe that the fire under the bum was AIESEC in India's so perceived rebellion called AIESEConnect. Anyway, that's history.

Now for the future, and the future's bright! :)
Digs, your scepticism is understandable. A lot has been promised in the past, and an alumnus doesn't see real value in the current aiesec.net/alumni

Value is in the making.
And this time, AI has the time and the money for it too! ;)

Anyway, enough said, and little done in the past - this time around, I think all of us should just shut up and let AIESEConnect talk for itself when the latest modules are released.
